I just returned from a session where I was "left in the dust" by the three other fiddlers because I couldn't keep up, even though I've been playing now for more than 5 years. When I stopped trying to keep up and, instead, watched what the others wer…

It's one of my favorites too, MM. I have (I think!) all of Martin Hayes' CDs. I enjoy playing along with them, mainly, of course, the tunes where he plays something slowly and with feeling. I went to camp this summer at Swannanoa and was in Martin's…

Jessica - I know what you're going through. My son got married a couple weeks ago. While planing the wedding, he called and asked if I would play a few Irish tunes at the wedding. It was to be a garden wedding and I was the only music. I've been pla…

Hi George -- just look at the top of the FH homepage -- see Groups there? Click on that word and you're home free.

The groups have apparently been restored but I can't find any links to them anywhere. Does anyone know where the links are? George

I used and enjoyed the groups at least several times a week. I would prefer that they return. Its interesting that the link still works. I don't have much interest in the forum approach and won't be on the site often if that is the main method of co…

Bow Hair & Weather

Is anyone else having trouble with their bow hair? I'm in Michigan and it has turned warm and damp and suddenly I can no longer tighten my bow to be able to play. I'm at the end of the screw and the bow still isn't even mildly taut. On the other hand, during this past winter, I could barely loosen it to let the hair "relax" when I put it away. A year ago I bought a rather expensive (for me, anyway!) pernambuco bow and this is the one giving me a problem. An older cheapie bow that came with my fi… Continue

Hi Jeremy, thank you for the invite, good te be friends! What a great way of taking lessons - all the different people you take lessons from next to your ''regular'' teacher! I'd imagine that to be a very rich source of advice, good on you.

Jeremy! I was just one your sessonite website and have gone head over heels for two items. "The Groove" reprinted from The Session and also the Counting Out Meters for Rhythms. I have shared both with other fiddler and musician friends. Wonderfully helpful! Thanks so much.

I may have seen you at Dick O'Dows...I'm friends with Bonezman (Charles) who used to do sessions there and first informed me about them last year. I went a couple of times to check them out, but didn't bring my fiddle...maybe next time!

Hi there Jeremy! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my videos. I started traditional Scottish fiddle lessons last June... but I played classical viola for about 10 years back in the 70'-80's. Then I quit all together for over 20 years. I love traditional fiddling whether it be Scottish, Irish, English, Scandinavian or old time. Irish is also my current love... actually I have been an Irish music fan since the early 70's, but never imagined that I would be learning it years later. Jim, AKA: fiddle4u has been very helpful to me with his wonderful You Tube videos.

I have heard a number of people mention Swannanoa... I will have to consider this. for next summer. I am committed to Jink and Diddle (school for traditional Scottish fiddling) down in North Carolina for this summer.
