You're welcome George, and thank you for being supportive. Most times all I need is a little pep talk from fellow fiddlers who understand the joys and frustrations of this beautiful instrument. It's almost depressing to see how quiet most websites a…

What a great site and what a great thing he's doing! I realize you posted this over 2 months ago, but it's not easy keeping track of others' blogs. I'm just surprised no one else has commented on it.

I'm in search of a school to donate my instruments to. Two fiddles and a ukelele. Any suggestions?

Ok, I know it's not a joke about fiddling but it is about an acoustic instrument and Celtic. I didn't join the "joke" forum as I get easily offended at times. So, let's see if I can copy and paste this in here. ------------------------------------…

Worried for nothing, frustrated for good reason.

I think everything is working out as it should as far as my playing for Christmas with my church. The music director has yet to contact me. She didn't seem to interested in the idea to begin with and I'm feeling awfully frustrated with my abilities here lately and ready to chuck it all. Then I go through some sort of depression at "the loss".

It's interesting to me how well (to my ears) I sound when I go a week without playing. My silly hand has yet to cramp and I've been practicing for over a… Continue

Oh dear God, what have I done?!

I'm not sure what I started today. I was in a women's study group at my church and I answered Irish fiddle to the question "what are you passionate about?". The woman sitting next to me immediately tried to get me to talk to the music director about joining. I immediately threw all kinds of excuses in the air: I don't have an electric fiddle or an amp for my acoustic fiddle, I've only been at it a year, I don't think I'm quite good enough". Lame, right?
Oh dear God, what have I done?! Just the t… Continue

Six Weeks Without Weekly Lessons

I get worried about having so much time off before the next term begins, so I hope it goes by quickly. I am one of those who does better with structure. So, I stop and think about all that I have to work on then I get anxious wondering if six weeks will be enough time for me to make any improvements. I drive myself crazy! lol

By putting my goals on this blog, it is pretty clear I have a lot to focus on and keep me busy until classes begin again in August.

1. Relax left hand
2. Work on scales
3… Continue

Another Festival

This will be my fourth festival since I started playing with this Irish group and I find myself giddy with excitement and a wee bit of fear, but the excitement seems to far outweigh the fear after I remind myself there are about 20 other fiddlers I can hide behind.
The songs we are playing this time around are so much fun to play and I can't wait to hear all of us play The Lightkeeper's Waltz together tomorrow night at dress rehearsal. It sounds SO beautiful when first and second strings play it… Continue

Jessica, please reconsider. I think you will regret it if you don't. Maybe if you just try having some time out, you never know, it might help.

Just for comparison, Jessica, the overnight temperature out in the county up here went down to a degree or two below freezing the other night! Daytime temps are hovering between 55 and 60 at the moment. October in Canada; you can't beat it!

Jessica,
It's good to make friends with you. Thank you for the kind words. And it's great that you are going to start playing with the band at church! God just loves it when people play for Him! He gives the talent, we give it back to Him, and He smiles!!!!!

God bless you Jessica!

im glad to hear that you are going to try to get a session going,i tried to get things going on my own for years with no luck ,we are just a few people that are starting from allmost no skills,i mean i know a few trad tunes and the others are more paddy rock like the dubliners, pouges, clancy brothers, but i also play in an open jam tuesdays which is gone cajun mostly and am learning everything i can from all styles i can,i just like being around good people and jamming tunes, wishing you the best of luck, the lady started us out by putting an ad on craigslist but you can also go to your local music shops and put an ad on their bulliton board and you should get at least one person,it only takes two to get started, catch u later ,best wishes !

Anna, it is not corny. It's true! Soothing and mysterious are good words to describe its effects. Just like the fiddle, the cello stirs something in my soul. Now I'm going to sound strange but it causes a "rumbling" that starts in the middle of my spine with the first draw of the bow across the strings. I heard a bass fiddler play something a few weeks ago that had the same effect, and there was a gal who played this dark wood flute that I could have listened to all night. Something about those dark tones.....heaven to me.
