Since this blog showed up again today and I can't remember if I commented on it - guess I'll comment now. I'm very much still a beginner even with five years of lessons behind me. My teachers are great with constructive criticism as well as suggesti…

Yeh, chatrooms are always problematic. The only way I've found that they're useful is if you arrange with someone else ahead of time to meet you there at a specific time. Otherwise, you're simply taking your chances, aand precious few of us hang aro…

Constructive criticism

The topic ''Musicians are sensitive'' brings me to open this topic in blog form....... it can be seen as an extension of it...!

At the risk of being scolded, berated, banned, opening a can of worms, disliked, misunderstood or otherwise... : ) ...I'd like to see how people feel about constructive criticism.

It strikes me that among the many great things that are offered on FW, constructive criticism isn't being offered very often here on FW.
Are musicians really that sensitive........?

Language - countries, cultures & interpretation of what you read :)

We share one common language on FW: English.
Yet the country you're from - even if it's a country where the native language is English - and your culture determine how you interprete what you read , how you read it : )
Here's something I wrote in a post the other day: ''In my book, there are....''
After I'd written the post, someone asked me in the FW chat: ''you wrote a book?'' At first I hadn't a clue what was meant, then I realized.... : ) and later someone else asked: ''what's your bo… Continue

Overcoming selfconsciousness - learning to trust the emotional process in playing music & how to work with it to help overcome blocks

This is part of a post in which an FW member asked about how to best build speed:

......'' I find that sometimes I'm doing pretty good, gaining speed, and then my mind seems to notice how fast I'm going and then I totally lose it. this happens even with music that I know well, can play by memory, and have been playing for a good while. What is the best way to get past this block?''

This question touches on something very important!

I'll describe what actually happens duri… Continue

Hi Miriam! Thanks for your ululation, but I would not recommend that you obtain a Stroh fiddle - most of my musician chums have politely requested that I stick to wooden and lekky violins. I can take a hint.
Cheers

Hi Miriam,

Thank you for the kind words and warm welcome! I do indeed play quite a few instruments, unfortunately my fiddle playing is one of the weaker of the lot. :(

Miriam, thank you for your kind words on my video. Coming from you, they mean alot. The instrument is made by Scherl & Roth and is a copy of a 17th century Stradevarius. Thank you, again.

Thanks Miriam. If you ever play in California let me know. I doubt if I will make it to the island but it sounds great. It is such a shame that Holland has lost that part of its culture. It makes me realize how important it is to keep the music going!
