Violin Stand

I've seen some rigs that simply incorporate an old fiddle case, it is affixed to a guitar stand. Or, one can build their own stand of wood or salvage some other thing to do the job.

Giant circles the Frog to the Tip

Here's a fantastic exercise I was taught by a dynamite teacher who is the head viola teacher at Interlochen Academy for the Arts, David Holland. I had the awesome good luck to study with him for a summer term at L.S.U..

He's a giant guy and played college football quite well. He's a very "physical" teacher with respect to the entire body and awareness of the entire body and how that applies to our awareness of the little… Continue

Bands, Sidemen, Projects - Others, Self, Expectations

This blog entry was born from my participation in what I think is an important discussion here on Fiddle World. That discussion is:

Accompanists

In my experience working with bands and sideman and having been a sideman and attempted to put bands together in which I lead vocally and on 'lead' strings:

Every artist, (musician), has their own musical goals.
When I ask somebody else to… Continue

Greeting New Members - Using the Chatterwall

New members of http://fiddleworld.ning.com enter into a web space that for some can be overwhelming and confusing. It may seem to some members, (especially those new to ning and even the internet in general), that there are so many things to click and do, (and then participate within), on their Profile Page alone.

Terrific! My wife Sharon and I adore the Rat Pack! Her fav singer of all time is Dean Martin; we have a large framed poster of the "Pack" (minus Joey) playing pool in a famous scene from the original (and best) "Ocean's 11". Right over the workstation, there hangs a small framed print of a Hirschfield cartoon of Frank, Dino, and Sammy from the '50's, all with martinis in hand! What an inspiration!
