I get these bow questions all the time from students, friends, customers, etc: 1. what's the best bow for me? 2. what's the best weight 3. what's the best feel/how do I know it's going to be right? I have put a lot of thought into bows. Started…

Profile Information

Personal Statement or Biography
I am a music teacher, musician and marketer living in South Hadley, MA with my wife Emily and two sons. I have a certificate in Violin from the New England Conservatory of Music at Rivers (1980) and a BA in Music and Business Administration from Hampshire College (1985). I opened my teaching studio in 1986 and offer fiddle, mandolin, guitar and bass lessons to members of my community. I started fiddling at the age of 10, played in bluegrass bands for over 30 years, and celtic fiddling from 1995 or so. Took some lessons from Fiddlers Frankie Gavin, Tommy Peoples, as well as Mandolinists David Grisman and Mike Marshall. Love all kinds of music, including the chamber music of Brahms, Schubert, Dvorak and Mendelssohn, as well as jazz and swing from the 1920s and 30s, classic rock from the 1960s and 70s, bluegrass of course and just about anything with a good beat and a swing, as long as its acoustic.

Fiddler's Bow Testimonials

"I think it's a real nice bow for fiddling, and that most people would really enjoy it. I'd certainly recommend it, especially at that great price."
Darol Anger

"Just wanted to tell ya'll how much I am enjoying playing with the new bow. It is so light yet it gets a great sound. I am able to do so much more with it technically than my other bows. It is fun to play with and so easy to handle."Continue

Any Day Now...

Sorry I've been incommunicado everyone...we are down to the wire, and Emily could give birth at any moment.

Please be patient with me for a few days

Thanks!

Bow Hair

Many of our members know that I have been in the music industry for many years. In 1998, I started a small luthier supply business, mainly importing bow hair from Argentina and Canada and later, Mongolia.

The bow hair I carry is very fresh, very well sorted and excellent for most wooden and carbon fiber bows. Many top violin shops in the US, Canada and the UK use my bow hair. My brand is TwoTree, but sometimes it's simply referred to as Manchurian, or Manchurian LIVE.

Thanks for the welcome. I've just started night classes to try and learn some fiddle playing. I'm probably being too ambitious, as I turn 60 this week!
