Thank you, I really like this site. The back ups are sweet and played at some different tempos. Nice guitar playing with bass runs etc. Thank you for posting this!

Marshall, Sorry I'm slow about responding to your question. This school is called the Ozark Folk School and it's held at the Mountain View Folk Center in Arkansas every March for four days. They offer instruction in old-time fiddling, banjo, and sin…

I love to play slip jigs the most out of this group of classifications. They have that extra beat in the measure which give a nice twist to the rhythm. I occationally play for feisianna (Irish dance competitions), and the official tempo for slip jig…

Have you got a definition yet? I'm working on a definition too. Most people's perception of a good tune is just one they like. We all know where that stands. -judi

I also agree this book of Alan's is awesome. I've learned several tunes from it with the help of the recordings. Also, I attended a week long workshop with Alan Jabbour at the Mountain View folk school in Arkansas where and he taught about 14 of the…

I used to use the session website a lot to find dots to tunes I wanted to learn. It was somewhat helpful, but not all the dots were right, so I had to do a bit of editing while listening to the tune. But it was a helpful start. The comments I mostly…

Jim, that "Austen" is a VERY nice tune! I want to try to learn it. New tunes can be just as good as old tunes. It IS a living tradition! -judi

Thanks for the invite Aisha. I love all kinds of fiddling, especially Eastern European. One of my favorite bands is the Warsaw Village Band. It's one big string band of flddles and cellos with side drums. They have a great high energy sound! here is…

Judi,

I encourage you to start a discussion here on Fiddle World about Ozark old-time fiddling and to post some of your writings about the subject in the header of the discussion to kick it off. As you participate in other discussions and get to know the memberships interests you can invite others to your dicussions when you see that they might be interested.

On these types of "ning" communities, groups can easily grow out of discussions. Those that display enough interest in your discussion can then be invited to the group to build its membership.

Judi,

I may stand corrected but I believe you are the first adherent of Ozark old-time here on Fiddle World. I have some wonderful memories of hiking in the Ozark mountain ranges with my family when I was a child.

Welcome to Fiddle World, thanks for tuning up and tuning in.
