I am working on an old time entry for the
Arkansas Encyclolpedia. It is my desire to accurately portray the time period and the necessity of the music as well as where it came from. Obviously, it is impossible to completely understand the music in the eyes of a 19th century person, however, we possibly understand more thoroughly where the music came from and what it meant in an overall sense to the communities. My question for…

SOUL-PATROL.com PRESS RELEASE :
"As you all know, in my humble opinion, Billy Jones is one of the most compelling artists around on today's Black Blues music scene.
For his latest album, he has put together a collection of his best songs
on a single album called "The Billy Jones Story." This is something that
I wish more artists should do with some of the outstanding music they
have released and I am glad to see that Billy has taken that step. Look
for 5 or 6 of these songs to make a…

Speech writing is in lots of ways similar writing a paper, apart from that there is no penalty for spelling and punctuation mistakes. You should not try to write words in your speech that you are not relaxed pronouncing or don't know the meaning of because it can lead to a less fluently delivered speech.
To be able to write a high-quality speech is a lot like making a good cake. Having the right elements is key for it's success. Every…

I joined the community orchestra last week as a violist. We're playing the Holberg Suite (Grieg) this fall. Now, how long will it take me to relearn the viola clef (after 40+ years--yikes!)? Not too long, I hope. I found a great viola site on the Web (http://violaonline.com/) with free downloadable sheet music of some basic etudes--Sevcik, Wohlfahrt, Kreutzer, and 2 esp. lovely Bach etudes--now they're a real flash from the past, but a great way to get restarted.
All this doesn't mean I've give…

Many of our members know that I have been in the music industry for many years. In 1998, I started a small luthier supply business, mainly importing bow hair from Argentina and Canada and later, Mongolia.
The bow hair I carry is very fresh, very well sorted and excellent for most wooden and carbon fiber bows. Many top violin shops in the US, Canada and the UK use my bow hair. My brand is TwoTree, but sometimes it's simply referred to as Manchurian, or Manchurian LIVE.
Some Shops Include…

A little background:
I started playing "violin" in grade 5 at St Peters Elementary school in London. At that time, children were "selected" to attend the music school. In my mind, I did something terrible wrong and it was my jail sentence to be transferred out of a school full of friends to a school full of music geeks and freaks!.. It really didn't take me long to figure out it was the best decision my mum had ever made for me. Thanks Mum!.. I far from excelled in this musical program. I did w…

My wife, youngest daughter, and I have just returned from a 10-day jaunt out to "the Left Coast" of Canada to visit "rellies" on both sides in the Greater Vancouver Area and on Vancouver Island. I took my fiddle along (carry-on luggage; no problems) on the flight, in case I should be fortunate enough to find a few venues at which I might join in a session or two.
Shortly after arriving, I made brief contact with fellow FW member Paul Gitlitz, who runs a Tuesday night session near Nanaimo; unfor…
